Biographies

The Producers

Nicholas Newton is a theatre, television and radio producer. In 1972 he co-founded the Bush Theatre, London. After working for Michael White and HM Tennent he started producing in the West End with GIGI at the Fortune Theatre in 1976 followed by Dylan Thomas’ UNDER MILK WOOD at the Mayfair Theatre.

In 1980, he joined the management of the Royal National Theatre as Special Projects Executive where he managed the television co-productions of the National Theatre’s repertoire for Channel 4 Television, the BBC and Time Warner including: Peter Hall’s THE ORESTEIA, Bill Bryden’s production of THE MYSTERY PLAYS, and Richard Eyre’s THE BEGGARS OPERA. He also assisted the General Administrator and established the Royal National Theatre’s Development Council which raised considerable funds and supports the National Theatre Studio.

In 1994, he formed Promenade Productions with director Bill Bryden and produced THE BIG PICNIC at the Harland and Wolff Shed, Govan, which he also produced for BBC Television. He has continued to produce theatre in the West End, including the award winning production of Tennessee Williams’ BABY DOLL at the Noel Coward Theatre, co-producer of the Lincoln Center’s production of SOUTH PACIFIC which opened at the Barbican Theatre in 2011 and then toured the UK throughout 2012.

Edward Crozier has produced several productions in the West End and in Scotland, including RAT PACK CONFIDENTIAL, BABY DOLL and THE CELTIC STORY. He has executive produced many of Promenade Production’s radio dramas for the BBC. He first became a producer on Bill Bryden’s THE BIG PICNIC in 1994 and was a co-producer of SOUTH PACIFIC. Previously he had a 17-year career in financial services, in which he specialised in tax-efficient schemes and capital raising for the entertainment sector.

Ed is a former Director of Culture & Sport Glasgow and Scottish Opera, a judge in the National Scottish Business Awards, Chairman of Dance Base Scotland and a Council member of the Scottish Rugby Union.

Board

Promenade Productions is chaired by Richard Blake FCA, former Senior Partner & Chairman of Baker Tilley (Accountants) and Finance Director of the Attenborough Group of companies. The other Board members are Edward Crozier, Julian Gleek, managing director of the Burford Group, and Nicholas Newton.
